LOL, never looked at Win CE like that before, but how very apt. :-D

I'm not comparing a Blackberry directly to the iPhone though, am I.

All I've done is clarify why it is I found the one had a good bit of kit in its own right.

Your experiences indicate you've found an iPhone is a great bit of kit... but like I say, that doesn't make a Blackberry 's**te'.

It depends what you want from a mobile device really and I suspect from a company prospective, everyone having Blackberries fed from your own stable BES is a good enough reason to invest in them.

Having been entrusted with certain aspects of BES administration at the place I had the Blackberry, I can also see why the BES is a 'good thing', in as much as it has a fairly intuitive interface and tends to be pretty reliable.

Are you aware of any companies who've issued all their staff with iPhones for email etc?

iPhones don't need BES.

So long as you have OWA on your Exchange server, it delivers 90% of the functionality of a Blackberry, but with a much better interface.

Reading attachments on an iPhone is much nicer than reading them on a BB.

Blackberries don't need BES either - but from a company perspective, they make a lot more sense if you do run them off an inhouse BES, and if you've got a well sorted one of those that isn't overloaded, you end up with a very slick mobile email solution.

I'll have to take your word for that, but OWA proved to be a company email PITA at the last place I was at.

Unless Blackberries have moved on since when I had mine, I'll concede this is one area in which they need to improve.

Err no. It means that all my music is ripped to MP3 as I transport it on various things and MP3 has universal support. Also music I purchase online comes in MP3

Err, I did rip a CD I own..

But the fact still remains in regards to the folder issue.

Navigation was s**te on the ones I tried and the thing felt like someone had made it themselves from a RadioShack kit.

And MP3 is s**te.

Umm no, 320k MP3 still sound awful, 320K AAC is definitely much better.

But it does account for why you can't tell the difference between different formats. Classical and acoustic music shows up the deficiencies in MP3, dance/trance is all at one level, compressed and goes "thump, thump, thump" so you could just as well listen to someone kicking s*it out of a plastic tub.

One wonders what the f*ck you are up to, but since I don't have the CD I can't try it for myself. Presumably your didn't rip it via iTunes in which case one wonders WTF the bother with iTunes. As I pointed out elsewhere, if you rip it with something else and fill in the ID3 tags with something else then all iTunes can do is honour the ID3 tags. If iTunes created 123 folders then you ignored the advice given to tell iTunes to leave the files where they are when importing them.

And it all doesn't matter a s*it if you're pumping it through headphones or non professional standard audio equipment.

Nothing at all. There are 62 artists so it creates one for each artist. It then creates a folder under each artists name for the album name. It then creates another one for the album art.

I told iTunes to handle it as you told me to. If you rip any CD in iTunes that has multiple artists listed, it will create a folder for each artist that doesn't already exist and then create a sub folder for the album under each artists folder.

MP3 is fine for pop. but anything else can be really bad, I spend a lot of time working with digital audio and can't abide most MP3 codecs. MP3 encoded trance / dance stuff tends to corrupt the highs with the bass in a really odd way.

Dance / Trance tends to by quite dynamic and not as compressed as you might think - yes a lot of "mix" cds are (and quite disappointingly so too), and anything going out on commercial radio is beaten to death with a stick marked "gain reduction" until it's almost unrecognisable, but high bitrate AACs are fine for 99% of listeners 99% of the time.

Heh - which of my headphones would you like to change your mind about that with - the Westone UM2s or the AKG 271s?

Wouldn't make much difference. My hearing is that bolloxed up anyway that I doubt I'd tell unless it was massively different. Usually have to have the treble ramped up full with the bass zero'd - too much time driving down roads with drivers windows open.

That's untrue. Even quite modestly priced earphones offer decent quality. Say £20 - £50 a pair which seems fairly cheap compared to a £150 iPod.

Well, I can't reproduce your observation with any compilation CD or even any collection of compilation CDs. All CDs are ripped to iTunes Music->Compilations->CD Title and the tracks are named by artist/track.
