Pontiac Azteks Are Awesome!

I totally agree.

Yep, again. There's been many "funky" looking vehicles over the years that once they received a healthy dose of horsepower suddenly they start looking damn good. Look at the early 90's Caprice. That bastard was choke UGLY! However, once it was given the "treatment" aka - Impala SS - suddenly it was desireable. Same with some of those early 60's Chryslers. Once they slipped a Max Wedge under the hood, bam, they were instantly cool.

The Aztek looking like this with a good thumping V8 under the hood would be damn cool!

Wouldn't you just love to prowl the streets with that thing! Cobras and Z/28s would be snacks.

Cool. But you'd be in the line behind me.

Huh?

I wouldn't worry about shielding your eyes... it would leave you in a cloud of smoke and be a few miles up the road before you knew what happened...

On the flipside of that, take a look at the new t-birds. Less power than the originals - yet very retro-styled. Went down in a ball of flames. I personally liked the look, just couldn't afford the price tag for a convertible grocery getter.

Not to mention the Corvettes, and every tuner Mustang out there also. Depending on how much that Aztek weighs, it could also be a contender for the Vipers too. I mean, shit, there's not too much out there that _could_ touch it.

Of course ;)

Dunno!

Hey, I agree. Aztek are ugly! But not the Aztek on Auto Weeks website. That one is awesome!

If money were no object, and I already had several vehicles in the garage, I'd say "maybe". It's still butt-ugly.

Frankly, I don't want a fast, ugly car. Don't want a really good-looking slow car, either. The car I own has to be a good blending of mind, body and spirit (something I don't insist on from myself).

There's a BMW out there with my name on it, and I've got $50 saved so far towards its $175,000 price tag.

Don't get excited, folks. It was a rental.

Broke my heart, too. Brand new Sonoma, 4,000 miles on the clock. Virtually every panel was scratched and/or dented, and the bed looked like someone had been hauling broken cement blocks. I picked it up Saturday and spent an hour going over the interior - something was sprayed on the dash, and got all over the place... Slimy. Don't even want to know what that was.

Nice truck, certainly different, but not for me. The Frog was back in the shop for an ongoing clutch problem. Hopefully, this time it's properly fixed.

I was scared there for a minute.

That's how rentals go. I once had a "new" Ford Assfire w/ 12K on the clock and it was a pit. Now I know that an Aspire is by no means a car that creates even a slight smolder of joy in anyone, but at 12K miles it should still resemble a car.

Sorry to hear the frog is ailing. Did you ever get rid of the princessmobile? I would ASSume so with the rental truck, but you never know.

The time to rent cars is late summer/beginning fall. You'll more than likely get a new model with only a few miles on the clock. When my 02 R/T was totaled, the other guy's insurance bought me a rental for a while - an '03 Saturn 4-dr with about 100 miles on the clock. I was proud that I was the first to abuse it. Held up pretty well.

dwight, how many miles on the frog now?

princessmobile? I

I've had this ongoing problem with the clutch - every time I push down the pedal, it feels (and lately sounds) like the cable is binding or catching on something. I've just had a new clutch plate, pressure plate, TO bearing, and fork installed, but the sound is still there. Clutch pedal effort is much less, but it still sounds wrong (i.e.: if I can hear it AT ALL, something's wrong). It's almost as if the cable's sheathing was being pulled away from the cable... Strange. I can't seem to find anyone who can properly work on this car - hell, Ford only made a million of 'em.

The Princessmobile, my spare, is gone. Guy bought it without even a test ride. That's one little black hole that isn't going to be sucking my money away from the Frog anymore. Both kids are working full time, so THEY don't need any financial attention at the moment, either...

Naturally, ever since I sold the convertible, the Frog has been giving me trouble. Either it's lonely or it knows that I have no fall-back vehicle. I washed it last night as soon as I got home from work, so it's putting up with me for now.

I swear that car's a cat. No dog would treat me like this.

I have that noise in the '95 too (107,000 miles), or *a* noise anyway. Intermittently, when I press the clutch I get a noise like I'm steeping on a wet rubber ball. It never felt different so I just left it be, if it gets worse I suppose I'll have to get it checked out. sigh.

if it were a dog it would shit fluids all over your parking spot every day.

Jean made me take riding lessons many years ago - English, no less. The instructor assigned me to "Stonewall", who seemed nice enough. A mild trot around the indoor ring to get the feel of actually sitting upright on a horse, as opposed to the Western slump. Once we got outside, Stonewall must have tired of going around in circles, 'cause he started heading off toward a ...yes... stone wall. The instructor started yelling at me, "Don't jump - do NOT jump", just before Stonewall... yes... jumped the stone wall.

Now, okay, I was new to the whole horse thing and perhaps my control was virtually non-existant, but I didn't mind jumping the wall and, obviously, neither did Stonewall. The instructor was pissed.

What I learned was that Stonewall was cool and the instructor was a huge pain in the butt. End of lessons.

Maybe it's the cable itself. How lng ahs it been since you've replaced it. With a 165,000 miles you could easily go through 2 or 3 of them.

I go through clutch plates every 45 to 50,000 miles. I think I'm on my fourth. I like to replace the cable every time I replace the plate, and I like to replace the flywheel every other time.

The current cable has been in the car for only about 5,000 miles. The "transmission specialist" shop that just had my car had me replace everything but (I order in my own parts), so I now have a spare clutch cable - no doubt, I'll need it.

I'm really beginning to hate my commute. Fourteen miles, most of it spent in

2nd gear, and much of it spent in that 10-feet-at-a-time crawl. I gotta find another way, for the sake of my sanity AND my clutch.
