Hey guys & gals, I'm having a problem with my 98 RAV 4 4WD. When I turn the wheel to the extreme I hear a squealing noise. As I approach the extreme limits of the wheel I feel several 'jumps'. I don't know how else to describe the feel I get. This happens if I turn the wheel in either direction. The fluid level is just a minor bit lower than the 'hot' line on the reservoir. Any ideas to what this is?

I had a noise problem with my PT Cruiser and the dealer flushed the fluid and the noise went away. Something to consider.
Richard.
You could check the power steering belt tension as this is probably the noise you can hear. Joe
As Richard posted, someone in the Camry ng had a ps problem and he pulled all the fluid he could out with a baster and refilled with fresh fluid which solved his problem. Make sure the ps drive belt is good and tight. Also, ps should not be forced against the stop as it will overpressure the system and can damage components. davidj92
