Re: Autoroute 2003 hack?

Someone mentioned a hack for Autoroute 2003 so it doesn't have the 15

>second timelapse when reading from a GPS. > >Could whoever that was please let me know? > >I'm not at all familiar with MS products, but have been playing with >this for a few days and have to (sadly, this is now on record) admit >that I do quite like it...

I'm replying to this simply to ensure that Google records your statement for posterity. X-NoArchive firmly NO....

I s'pose it had to happen...

In 20 odd years using 'puters, I've now found a Microsoft product I like. Not a bad record methinks ;-)

Copied this form a previous posting on the subject:

=======================================

to increase the gps sensor update rate in MS Autoroute 2002 the same string of bytes as used for the patch for 2001 can be used : with a hex editor search the autorout.exe file for the hex string :

BF983A0000

the 983A is the value 0x3A98 (15 seconds) change 983A into E803 (value 0x3E8)

the update rate will then be 2 seconds

======================================

It may work, then again it may completely bollox it up for you, I'm sure we'll hear one way or t'other.

Actually, Googling found this one that refers to AR 2003:

Buggered it up yet?

All the best

Easy, simple, working :-)

As if! It was easy (after reformatting my hard drive) ;-)

Happily, for me anyway, I have no problems with using a hex editor.

Yes I find it great as well - so accurate with my gps12 handheld that it even shows me which side of the road I am on - when I stop in the middle of a junction it actually shows me in the middle!!!!

See you have the patch now - invaluable - pain in the arse without - typical of Microcost to bugger up a good product with a stupid problem!!!

The reason for the 15 second timing was to help older machines to cope. If you drop it to 5 seconds on an old machine then the screen might not have time to refresh fully before getting another command to start refreshing.

has AR2003 still got the infuriating large-scale street maps which don't line up with the road-level maps? this was the one thing that really put me off the thing. That and the lack of postcode lookup, which is I believe AR now does.

Sadly, the one I found with decent maps, Auto-Street, is now defunct. Still works, of course, except that it's now 3 years out of date.

Odd that they always up their minimum system requirements for running their software but forget to alter these 'little' things to reflect better systems, isn't it.

Does XP _really_ still have old developer messages from the Win95 Alpha release along the lines of "Hey Chuck, this is kinda screwed, can we work on it after lunch?" I wonder, or is this just an urban myth?

Can't say I've noticed, but I'm not totally sure what you mean.

It 'does' do postcode lookups - but to be honest, I don't think they're very good. According to AR2003 I live, by a bizarre coincidence, at Warrens workshop (honest, try it!)

I doubt any mapping software could keep up with the new one way systems deployed in Sheffield, or any other major city for that matter.

So Charlotte was on the coding team then eh! ;-)

Well, to be fair that's only about 30 yards out.

Multimap does a little better, but the circle covers your house and Warren's!

Our post code address tool thingy returns long / latitude of 53.3661 and -1.4740, which is slightly different to Multimap. If you put that into MapPoint / Autoroute, it's 200 yards out....

Out of interest Martyn, what are the coordinates of your front gate according to Garmin? There are many variables here - the accuracy of the post code, the accuracy of the various bits of software and the accuracy of the graphical maps overlaid on top. It would be good to establish a 'right answer' for the coordinates at least.

Perhaps Multimap is using the geoid as specified by the national Grid whilst Autoroute is using WGS 84.

on AR2000, which I got when it was new, as you zoom in, you reach a point where it goes over from a "road" map (like yer normal road atlas) to a "street" map, with the street names on it, and these 2 maps don't line up. Worse, if you pinpoint where you want to be on the street map, your marker is misplaced on the road map when you zoom out again.

the one I've got places the postcode. But postcodes can be most of a street, or in rural areas, several properties. I don't know your postcode, so can't try it on mine :-). email it if you like.

me either. But this one has by far the best maps I've found. Mind you, arcane route planning system, not very easy to use. It does let you plot a straight-line route, in case you plan on travelling by helicopter, with bearings and distances I believe.
