can a 215/45R17 be used to replace a 225/65-17 tire

well, i know which years and models of volvos to look out for, but i've only ever paid attention to my 94 gxe max (which has been an absolute dream). is there any known problem with 01 maximas or any trim level within the year?

i was going much tighter budget on my next car, but this deal sort of fell in my lap - 2001 max with 47k for $8500.

of course it's a no-brainer for the cost; i just want to make sure that i won't have significant problems. also, how have 3rd gen max owners generally taken to the 01? thanks for any help.

Anyone else had airbag problems? I have a 98 SE, 87k miles, with the side airbag option. I had the passenger side (curtain) airbag replaced back in 01 while the car was still under warranty and the light was flashing. Now, the light is flashing again and the dealer tells me it needs another replacement airbag for $640. I have heard there was a service bulletin that a wire was too short in the airbag module causing it to short and this is the problem, but no recall.

Has anyone else heard of this problem? I don't want to spend $640 but the dealer claims that if the airbag light is flashing, it shuts down all of the airbags. thanks.

You are correct there is a TSB for a harness problem , I have dealt with this problem a few times, maybe 6.

The dealer is not really telling you the whole truth about the SRS light, the SRS light comes on to inform the driver that there is a problem with he system and it needs service. The SRS system will still work but it may not work as designed.

all cars have problems, it's a fact of life.

If your worried about it buy and extended warranty or buy a Volvo.

From what I understand (a friend of a friend is a service mgr at a local Nissan dealer) this is not a totally uncommon problem, and most folks are just leaving it and not spending the money to fix it. i personally think that nissan should pay for this...but somehow i don't think i'm going to get far.

the main problems with this gen of max are the ignition coils and the MAF. both were made with poor quality. find out fi the previous owner has had any problems with these, and if he's changed out the coils or not. Buy a volvo? I wouldn't wish that one anyone.... sure you'll be safe... because the car won't be going anywhere ha!

I want to buy a Maxima from a guy who has a lien on the vehicle through Nissan Financing. Does anyone know how this works? Obviously the lien has to be paid off but I want to make sure I drive away with everything I need and protect myself.

One way is to get the payoff information from Nissan Financing and pay them direct and stipulate that in the bill of sale you have the seller sign.

What if the airbag deploys while you are just driving down the road. Would such an intrusive happening cause you to have an accident and possibly lead to loss of limb or life?

I have a 1999 Nissan Maxima GLE driven for about 60,000 miles. I noticed that since the past few weeks, the car knocks when it is idle (when engine is warmed up). It happens when I stop at a light or when I am stuck up in traffic. I do not notice the knock during regular driving. I use 91 octane level gas in it.

Any ideas what might be causing this...

I had the car serviced for 60K miles at the dealers site a month ago. The computer showed no error codes.

your knock sensor is most likely worn out... dealer will want 400 bucks to remove the intake manifold to replace the sensor (3 hours labor) the sensor is located in the top of the engine in the middle under the intake manifold you can go to sears and get a 12 mm jointed socket (around the corner) that fit on the end of a couple of feet of the 1/4 socket extension. this will allow you to remove the sensor without removing the intake manifold do a Google search for maxima knock sensor for more detailed instructions john -- Yes this is my truck. At idle? I highly doubt it's the knock sensor. Could be a lot of things. I'd have a mechanic you trust listen to it. It's hard to diagnose noises over the internet.

An update! We did contact Nissan on Friday April 29th. Got the case number. The dealership contacted the area rep as well. On Thursday May 5 the dealership called to notify us that the area rep had decided not to start throwing parts on it since they can't duplicate or find a problem.

Area rep advised us to ensure that we check the battery often and ensure it has water in it as that could cause the batteries to be going dead. Give me a break. With this decision they referred us back to Nissan.

We called Nissan Rep on Friday May 6 and our call was unreturned. Called them on Monday May 9 and no return call so at 4:30 we called and asked to speak to Nissan Rep supervisor. We had to leave a mssg. and were advised that someone would contact us within 8 business hrs. About a half hour later the Nissan Rep called. She said she would call dealership and someone would contact us Tuesday. Dealership called on Tuesday May 10th and said that Nissan Rep was going to talk with the area rep and the dealership op. mgr. to get an ok for an engineer to get involved.

This is our 6th nissan since 1986. We had 5 good ones and now this one. We are grateful for this as their response to this situation has been poor. We hope to get this one repaired but doubt we will ever own another after how this is being handled. We are in the same place we were 12 days ago when we filed a claim with Nissan.

Well this is one person who after his 98 Maxima nolonger is worth repairing will not replace it with another Nissan product. I still say you are sure wasting a lot of your time trying to get Nissan to do the right thing. They are taking the same path as Ford GM and Chrysler took back in the 60s and you see where that path has taken them. Get a good repair shop to find the problem fix it and move on with life.

I'm about to go down to the local Nissan dealer and pickup a replacement regulator for my 91 max, driver's side door window. Does anyone out there know of a resource on the web for instructions on installing one of these? I was able to remove the old one, so I'm hoping there's a chance that I'll be able to install the new one, but I'm under no illusions that I may need to take it to a pro. I suspect the replacement part isn't going to come w/instructions. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
