It doesn't stop them speeding in built up areas either.

More like it's about time people are taught to drive properly - and not drive like utter twa*s.

Cheers Dan.

Try the Subaru importers? They must know who carries their cars.

For a tiny number of very well supported vehicles in a tiny area.

Here's an article some of you may find interesting :

It seems we already have photograph id on driving licenses and with an increasing number of clubs, bars pubs demanding ID, a proliferation in the amount of surveillance cameras around etc etc etc, we beginning to have state control and this removal of personal choice.

That and about a dozen other things. And what kind of GPS you're using (you *did* know there's more than one kind, didn't you?). And what are these magical boxes going to do when there's no signal? And you *do* want to sit outside your house for 5 minutes every morning until the GPS has acquired enough satellites for a decent fix, don't you?

Your faith in technology is touching, if completely misplaced.

Ah, yes. That well known scientific journal, the Evening Standard.

That and bonkers Ken.

And this is a *good* thing????

I don't think I'd trust that system, a better solution would be to make it illegal to be in any overtaking lane in any condition except a jam except when you are clearly passing other traffic.

The spy-cam bunch would love it, and it would divert some of their resources from trying to slow everyone down to a crawl.

Well I get my info from this link :

So we have technology that is able to fly a 747-400 from take off to touch down on full automatic pilot, but technology can't reliably detect the speed limits for roads where appropriate?

: You're wrong about the 75MPH though. THey have speed limiters fitted : which prevent this.

I have been overtaken on the A75 by HGV's doing more than 70 (yes, I've checked my speedo against a GPS and it's accurate to less than

0.5mph at 70) on many occasions. Most, but by no means all of the speeding vehicles were NI or Republic registered.

The minister has conveniently overlooked the changes in drivers' working habits over the same time period. With tachographs and stricter enforcement against infringement of drivers' working hours and rest periods, HGV drivers are no longer running around in the same zombified state they were in before the limiters were fitted.

All projects look wonderful at that stage, the manufacturers have a vested interest in being positive about the technology.

747s aren't taking off at one second intervals on up to three runways simultaneously with another load of 747s landing.

Umm no we don't. We don't have that technology at all. As long as the weather conditions are perfect, and there are no other aircraft in the sky then it could be done. Just.

The cost of the electronics to do this is slightly more than the price of the average house.

We don't have control rooms where the position and velocity of all cars on the road are monitored 24/7. Aeroplanes are flown as much by a crew on the ground as by the people on the flight deck.

I've already pointed out that I have access to ISA and it doesn't work reliably. Nor IMO is it possible to fix it.

Steve Firth

The ISA system does not drive the vehicle. It only limits the speed. It does not control the brakes. The driver is still in control of the vehicle so long as the speed limit is being observed.

One day, there's going to be a revolutionm in this country. It's going to stun and befuddle many of the masses.

That revolution, will be known as the "Take responsibility for your own actions" period of cultural shift.

FFS, with the ever growing reliance on nanny, how long before people start campainging for automatic botty scrubbers in every toilet?

You call that "simple"?
