Corsa Turbo

Doesn't work like that Tim - the longer the car, the MORE aerodynamic it is, just because the height-change is (usually) less abrupt everywhere (estates excluded, obviously).

Something as short as a Corsa won't be anywhere near as aerodynamic is a larger saloon car. If the Calibra can only get to 150mph with 200bhp, then there's no way the Nova/Corsa is gonna make it !

That's why big cars have higher top speeds than small cars, even when they share the drivetrain.

Only if it's CRAZILY light !

There are stacks of well-sorted 200bhp FWD small cars around, like the Civic Type R, Cooper S Works, Rover 200 Coupe (But it's not well sorted :) - none of them can crack the 6 second barrier.

And the Nova, being a dodgy old Vauxhall, isn't gonna have decent traction either :)

Rob, it was clearly over-reading *plenty*.

My more-aerodynamic 200bhp car can only hit 145mph (book figure) - and it's right near the redline at that (peak power is ~6000rpm) so there's nothing you could do with the gearing to make it quicker.

does that not suggest i'm talking indicated speed????????? more to come with a 6 speeder tho :)

in news:y3Bbd.61810$ snipped-for-privacy@fe1.news.blueyonder.co.uk, "Pete M" slurred :

The rover 200Turbo (1185kg, 200BHp, 175lbft) had an official 0-60 time of

6.2s, apparently. If that's true, then a Nova (860kg ,201BHP, 207lb-ft) should be able to manage it in under 6, I'd have thought.

Indeed.

My less aerodynamic, but more powerful and much more torquey Sierra would probably have trouble doing over 155. (250-260bhp, 300+lb ft)..

It was more to do with aerodynamics than gearing, the Integrale is geared to do 150ish. They just can't do it. Aerodynamics of a small cathedral.

i didnt say over 155 i said a speedo indicated 155 which is more or less circa 140 ish not bad in a 14yr old vauxhall nova :)

but a slightly more slippery corsa with the 6 speed box on the side i would expect to be able to crack the aforementioned 150mph

I'd still be surprised at a NA Corsa with a 6 speed box having a higher top end than a Turbo Calibra. Very suprised indeed.

Weight isn't such an issue when it comes to top end speed, and the only advantage the Corsa would have would be less weight.

Do you have a clue how much more power you need to raise your top speed by

10 mph?

No, it indicates that you're talking bollocks, HTH.

You are *not* going to get sub six seconds times on a FWD Corsa. Nor will you get a top speed of 155+.

You're *that* Rob aren't you?

Punto V8 Rob.

Why did I bother?

where did the NA corsa come from ?????

talking about a LET equipped corsa

2l 16v turbo 208 bhp :)

oh and as for the punto

the V8 proved a no go lol why did i even consider it :)

but theres a spare C20XE in the corner of the garage :)

might see about getting some customs shafts made up :)

but anyways quick guide to dropping a C20LET into a corsa

shopping list

modified drivers side mount bracket gearbox spacer plate driveshafts original corsa mounts suitable cv's complete C20LET engine with all wiring ecu fuel pump manifold etc gearbox(F28 with FWD conversion kit(circa 50 quid) or a F20 exhaust 2 suit corsa gsi rad induction kit cone filter

start off seam weld the entire engine bay up basically where chassis meets bulk head where the legs meet the front cross memberaround the turrets and bottome arm mounts suggest also considering a strengthing kit for the conversion harry hoclkey supply the nova ones try em for the corsa variants :)

give the engine a once over clutch water pump tensioner etc etc you also need togrind off the lug on the end plate of the gearbox so that it doesnt foul the tiebar

now you can put the engine in from underneat(easier if you remove the ARB first)

now you can start wiring the engine loom into the cars shouldnt be too hard basically its only a dozen wires fit the fuel pump as close to the tank as possible and away you go

you might want to junk the ARB at this point as you wll need to space it to get it to fit properly again and you'll find the car will prolly handle better without it due to the increased weight over the front wheels :)

any more help needed ie wiring diagrams gimme a shout :)

Wrong.

Aerodynamic drag is a combination of the efficiency of the design (which is better in a longer car hence the lower Cd figures) and frontal area (which is lower in a lower, narrower car). So a .28Cd car with a frontal area of 2 sq metres needs more power as it displaces more air than a .35Cd car with a frontal area of 1.5 sqm

to make a 140mph 200 bhp car do 150 mph I would guess at 45bhp. To got to

160 mph about 100 bhp.

It'll probably be around 6 seconds though (+/- half a second)

Calibra Turbo - 4WD transmission giving lots of rolling resistance. Corsa - Far less frontal area.

Why would the Corsa have less torque if it used the same engine? BTW, as a comparison, a friend has a BMW 330i, which has 231bhp. It happily hits the

155mph speed limiter.

I was thinking the same thing while reading this thread.

If it came to a choice between a nova and a corsa, I would take the nova. I cannot go anywhere it seems without seeing at least one corsa. And why would you want to put a calibra turbo engine into a nova (if robs car even exsists)? I can maybe understand a 2.0i mk2 GTE 16v since its a good match for size to power to weight ratio, but not a very large calibra engine

If you insist on owning a corsa then just stick a 1.1 lump in there and get a proper car to drive fast. Hell something cheap like a carlton gsi 3000,

204 bhp NA, now thats somthing thats worth turboing!

no i own a 2l 16v nova NOT A CORSA )

geez gimme some credit :)
