Calibra has tiny frontal area due to extremely low height. Note that your frontal area approximations are only that too... but we'll let you off.

Granted they were ok back in their day (1983) but only in comparison to the stuff they were competing with. The VW Derby for example, or the 1.1 Fiesta Popular Plus. The amusing thing was they were, even then, slated for s**te handling.

The reason Novas were popular is the SR was in Gp5 insurance. Looked quite sporty, rev counter, alloy wheels, oil pressure gauge, fake Mk3 Capri check trim. People who'd written off better cars or were too young for a better car could only afford to drive a Nova SR and so they hyped them up "It's ok y'know, K&N and a Peco.. goes well". They were lying.

The point you are missing is that 99% of drivers would find this a Good Thing. We're in the minority. Just because we like cars to be fun to drive.

In Group N rallying (especially the amateur end), much of the speed of the car is down to preparation, and the crew skill/experience. A better judge would be at top level, where crew skill/experience is closer between cars. Most top crews don't run 20 year old cars though. Taking another form of motorsport, I can "disprove" your theory. It's all academic though.

The omega is a tank though, it weighs much more.

The calibra has excellent aerodynamics, a freind of mine was talking about cavaliers and noted that de restricted cav+cal turbos have different top end speeds due to the calibras smoother profile. Nom you need to stop looking up facts and figures and get out into the world and look at the cars and experiance them becuase to even look at a corsa and calibra you can see the difference imidiately, the corsa's nose is flat and the windsheild has a more upright posture.

I would really love to own the R500 is it? I'm too tired to look it up, but its a dream car, keep it totally standard and rebuild it completely. I would rather own that than any god damn ferrari or porche.
