Remember the RPC exploit that caused Windows boxes to reboot which shitloads of Windows users got?

Did you know that Microsoft actually released a patch for it TWO WHOLE MONTHS before the exploit?

MSBlast. Microsoft patched the vulnerability two months before the exploit.

You could actually argue that there was a infinate combination of models for a PC...

Something Mac owners get pre-installed to make them look like they actually have a life?

Yea my laptop just joins WiFi networks easily. It asks me if i want to, then adds them as preferred and it 'just works' after that.

I've just had a Mac owning friend explain it to me (she has a Powerbook G4 Superdrive or summet). It does actually sound almost cool. Nothing I can't do on Windows mind you.

What? The fact that it forces you to buy overpriced hardware?

I see it as one against. Restricted hardware where the vendor can charge what the f*ck they like because they control what you can or cannot use. For example, if you wanted to add a WiFi USB adapter but you could only buy one from Apple, they could charge several times what a Windows user would pay.

Actually if you've got Windows XP SP2 installed, Firefox and Thunderbird do an equally good job whilst providing a better browser and e-mail experience.

From that point of view Ubuntu is the best managed, however it also seems to be the slowest.

XP also seems to ask to be restarted by it's updates a lot less frequently than OSX.

Anyone not smart enough to use it shouldn't be allowed to have a PC, they can join the Macs as SteveH has shown they are good for idiots.

Dan, you kinda missed the point.

If he'd had it set on auto - which it can do - then iTunes would have been updated and he'd have been none the wiser. However, he assumed that it was trying to give him iTunes, and deselected it instead of ignoring it.

A suite of media applications which comprehensively piss on anything available on Windows XP, that come free with every Mac sold, and are available to buy when updated for under £50 IIRC.

Feel free to slag them off if you've used them, but I review software as part of my job, and consider iMovie, GarageBand and iDVD to be well worth it. iWeb is the duffer of the lot at the moment, I preferred FrontPage (but not FrontPage Express, which would be more comparable as it was/is free).

Including:

iMovie HD - High Definition Video Editing (obviously not JUST high definition), import, effects etc.

iDVD - DVD Authoring.

iTunes - well, you know what that does.

iPhoto - fast, RAW (some, not all, formats) compatible photo album, organiser, publisher and so forth.

iWeb - website/blogging creation tool for use with .Mac, can also publish to folders onto your Mac if you want to use it as a webserver (all included on the OS).

GarageBand - Multitrack music composition/recording package.

And so forth.

Well... there's more that OS X supports than just iMacs. You'd be surprised, I think. Maybe you should research it ;)

FWIW, I agree that Windows could be more stable if it didn't have to support such a wide range of crap, but, it is unstable even with something as utterly predictable as a Dell.

You've not worked on a company Intranet have you?

The system is totally locked down, so I wouldn't have the first clue as to the IP / DNS settings etc to get it working with an alternative OS.

However, I promise you you can't do it as easily, or as well ;)
